April 23rd, 2018

Well, I hope that all of you have your affairs in order.  Especially your “spiritual affairs.”  In case you haven’t heard, the end of time will occur a week from tomorrow - April 23rd, 2018.  Perhaps you haven’t heard the news yet so I’ll use our lesson space here to inform you that we’ve got a new date set for the end of the world.

Yep, it’s a new date, however it’s the same prognosticator that has been wrong on two other predictive occasions.  You might recall last year when he (David Meade) first said that the world would end on September 23rd, 2017 and then - oops - it’ll really happen on October 15th.  Guess what?  Didn’t happen.

And now, since he’s had 6 months or so, he’s had time to re-figure and now says that on April 23rd, 2018 it will occur.  I’ve read the report of his calculations and I’ll attempt to give you what he says his prediction is based upon and what he claims will be the sequence of events.

He says that at the predicted time, the Sun, the Moon and the planet Jupiter will “align in the constellation Virgo” which will “spark the start of ‘The Rapture.”  There’s more to come in his heavenly events and we’ll mention that later.  And, in case you’ve forgotten, The Rapture is a term coined by premillenialists that’s really just another way of saying end of time.  Of course, there are other events attached to it, but basically it’s talking about the end of our world.

The scriptural tie-in to his celestial line-up he takes from Revelation 12:1-2 and I’ll cite it to you here (and if you can figure out how this fits with his calculations you’re a far better “figurer” than I am.) “And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the Sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars: and she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered.”

Ok, let’s return to the “heavenly events.”  Our doomsday prophet says that when the aforementioned alignment occurs, the planet Nibiru (also known as Planet X) will appear in the sky and its appearance will set off three other events.  They are, in this order, World War 3, the rise of the “anti-Christ” and then the seven years of tribulation.  (Also part of the premillenialist’s theory).

Before I get into rebutting this latest dooms-day forecast, let me just provide you with a little more scientific information.  First, the “Nibiru” theory has been around for quite a while and NASA has refuted it’s existence ever since.  According to its believers, it was supposed to have collided with the earth in 2003 and when it didn’t, revised to collide in 2012, which again, didn’t.  And also, the Sun, Moon and Jupiter alignment isn’t something new.  It happens every ten years anyway.

Now, let me just make a few remarks debunking this latest prediction about April 23rd.  My first thought is the line of an old folk song entitled “Where Have All The Flowers Gone.”  It’s the line that repeatedly asks the question “When will they ever learn?  When will they ever learn?”  I ask the same question.

There have been many of these end-of-time charlatans in history.  I use the term “charlatan” because its definition fits these people perfectly.  It means: someone pretending to have a special knowledge or skill; or an imposter.  When you think about it, there are a lot of these “teachers” around and, whether their promotions are laughable or not, they are dangerous to the welfare of the souls of others.

We don’t have enough time or space to list them all, but a few of the more notorious ones are guys like William Miller in 1843 who had thousands following him and his prediction of the end coming back then.  Sadly, by believing his forecast, they lost their material possessions and, if they continued in following his false doctrine, I’m afraid they also lost their souls.

Or, the “Heaven’s Gate” people who had their “church” down near San Diego.  Remember them?  In 1997, following their leader, a guy name Marshall Applewhite,  they took their lives in order to join up with the Hale-Bopp Comet and go to the heavens.

I’ll mention one other dooms-day predictor and he’s a guy named Hon-Ming Chen who founded the God’s Salvation Church, a conglomeration of Buddhism, Christianity and science fiction.  This is the guy who predicted the world would end and when asked when it would happen, he said, “when God appears on earth.”  Asked how would we know it was God, he replied, “He looks just like me, so if you see me, it’s God.”  Also, that “flying saucers” would come to save them.  And people believed him?

Well, I’ll just close with some words of truth from “The Truth.”  When Christ said that there would be “many false prophets” in the world and that they would “deceive many” (Matt. 24:11) He certainly said a mouthful, didn’t He?   And, as for those deceivers predicting His return, they’ve pretty much been doing that ever since He left.

We just need to remember a couple things and they’re not complicated.  There isn’t much calculation to be figured.  Here is all that we need to know about the end of time, the return of Jesus and the condition of our souls.  (1) Only God knows the day that Christ will return (Matt. 34:36).  (2) To have our soul ready at all times because we don’t know the time of that occasion. (Luke 12:40).

And, whether still alive or already passed on, when that day arrives we’ll know the answer to one of the great questions of the Bible.  When the “great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?”  (Rev. 6:17)  Answer:  souls that are “ready.”

Eze 41:4 So he measured the length thereof, twenty cubits; and the breadth, twenty cubits, before the temple: and he said unto me, This is the most holy place.

The man with the measuring reed is measuring the temple. The most Holy Place, also called the Holy of Holies, is a square 30 feet wide by 30 feet long. This is the place the High Priest entered annually on the Day of Atonement. These dimensions are identical to Solomon’s and twice those of the tabernacle in the wilderness (1 Kings 6:20).
The Old Testament form of worship was a shadow the true things to come (Hebrews 10:1). Ezekiel had a clear vision that the Lord would make His presence manifest again in the Holy of Holies (vs 1–4) but what he did not see as clearly was how this was going to take place. It would be left to the New Testament to explain how men could approach God in the Most Holy Place. And, the Hebrews writer says it was the blood of Christ that paves the way (Hebrews 10:19-20).
Now God calls His people to holy living: “But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of  conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy” (1 Peter 1:15-16).
The sanctity of the Church lies in the holiness of the lives of her members: “That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish” (Ephesians 5:26-27). A church is holy when her members are holy.
In this life it is easy to fill our schedules with activities that can get in the way of holiness. We will sin and sin will prevent us from entering the true Most Holy Place which is heaven (Hebrews 9:24). So, to prevent this from happening, the Scripture exhorts us to surround ourselves with believers who encourage us to keep on entering the Holy of Holies: “And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching” (Hebrews 10:24-25).
Many Christians struggle with the idea of church attendance. They ask why they must attend church every Sunday. But the first reason why Christians must attend church regularly is because God said so (Hebrews 10:25). And the second reason is those who love God love coming to His presence to worship Him (Psalm 122:1). The third reason why we must come together to worship is we need Christian community because we grow by being together (Hebrews 10:24; Acts 2:42-44).
Let us therefore not neglect our opportunities for corporate fellowship and worship. They serve to help us to develop our Christian faith and walk with God. Walk with the faithful Christians we will be faithful. Paul says “Evil companionships corrupt good morals” (1 Corinthians 15:33, ASV). They make us unholy. Therefore, choose to be in the company of those who are of like-minded faith.
Hebrews 12:14 says without holiness no man can see the Lord. It implies no one has ever been admitted to heaven in his sins. Hence, they who are expecting to be saved without holiness are destined to disappointment. God will not admit one unrepentant and unpardoned sinner to heaven. This does not mean we must be perfect and without sin but when we sin, we need to come back to Him for forgiveness: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).
Let us walk with those who desire holiness so that we might enter the Most Holy Place, which is heaven.

Psa 119:97  Oh how love I thy law! It is my meditation all the day.

Eze 42:13 Then said he unto me, The north chambers and the south chambers, which are before the separate place, they be holy chambers, where the priests that approach unto the LORD shall eat the most holy things: there shall they lay the most holy things, and the meat offering, and the sin offering, and the trespass offering; for the place is holy.

This chapter furnishes a brief account of the priests’ chambers in the outer court. The prophet is introduced to certain chambers known as holy chambers. The holy chambers were rooms specifically for the use of the priests who ministered to the temple worship.
Today, we shall focus on these holy chambers, or the priests’ rooms and what we can learn from them which is found in verse 13 and 14:
Eze 42:13  Then he said to me, "The north chambers and the south chambers opposite the yard are the holy chambers, where the priests who approach the LORD shall eat the most holy offerings. There they shall put the most holy offerings—the grain offering, the sin offering, and the guilt offering—for the place is holy.
Eze 42:14  When the priests enter the Holy Place, they shall not go out of it into the outer court without laying there the garments in which they minister, for these are holy. They shall put on other garments before they go near to that which is for the people."
Ezekiel tells us that the priests' chambers were specifically designed for two purposes: They were designed to be a place where the priests could eat the special "most holy" sacrifices, and where the priests could change into their holy garments before entering the inner court.
Every preacher of God’s word needs a “holy chamber”. Just as the holy chamber served to allow the priests to eat the most holy thing in it, every preacher needs a “holy chamber” where he can meditate on God’s word, pray, and prepare his sermons for public worship. It’s unfortunate that we do not have proper offices for our preachers. Let's pray that one day we can rebuild this place and then we can build an office for each of them.
Please note that the priests' rooms were "holy" because they were set aside for use in the work of the Lord. This should serve as an important reminder for us that we, too, need to have special "room" set aside for spending time with our Lord and Saviour. Every Christian needs a private place where he can meditate and pray. Christ says: “But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret” (Matthew 6:6). A closet is a private chamber where one can withdraw from the world and shut the world out and commune with God. Have a place for your private devotion where you will not be disturbed and distracted. One should never read his bible in front of the TV.
The “holy chamber” will help us to build and maintain the vital relationship that God so longs to have with each of us. We cannot be fit for God's work without seeking the Lord in meditation and prayer!
Ezekiel also mentioned that in the holy chamber, the priests would change into their holy garments before they entered the temple to perform the sacrifices. In the same way, we cannot enter the presence of God as we are. We, too, must prepare ourselves by eating the "most holy" sacrifice (meditation and prayer), and by properly attiring ourselves!
Our worship is important to God. Let us prepare ourselves, souls and bodies, for worship.
