Free Bible study on remembering things

Remember

FAILING TO REMEMBER SOMETHING CAN BE EMBARASSING, HURTFUL, DANGEROUS, OR EVEN DEADLY.
(1)   The congregation at Sardis was “dead.”
(2)   This congregation had gotten further and further from the Lord and it was in real trouble.
(3)   In Rev. 3:3 we find the word “remember.”

2)     If a congregation wants to become a dead church, all it needs to do is fail to “remember” (become forgetful).
3)     If we want to become an unfaithful and weak Christians, all we need to do is start “forgetting” some things.

SOMEONE MIGHT HEAR THIS INFORMATION AND SAY, “I UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF THE WORD ‘REMEMBER,’ BUT WHAT SHOULD CHRISTIANS AND CONGREGATIONS REMEMBER?”

1)     Jude 17 – READ
2)     God tells us to “remember” what the apostles taught (for us this information is contained in the NT).
3)      (2 Pet. 3:2).  Peter said:  that ye should remember the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and the commandments of the Lord and Saviour through your apostles:
i)      Heb. 13:7 says leaders (and elders fall into this category) are to be “remembered.”
ii)     This instruction makes sense for a variety of reasons.

4)     Heb. 3:3 says, “remember” those who are in bonds (prison).
5)     In 2 Tim. 2:8 Paul said Jesus has been “raised from the dead.”
6)     Eph. 2:11-13; let’s back up a little more to find these verses – READ

7)     Gal. 2:10 – we may now “remember” the poor.
8)     As Christians “remember” how Jesus taught, “it is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35).

9)     In Lk. 17:32 Jesus said, “remember” Lot’s wife.
10)  In Lk. 16 Jesus spoke about two men who died and entered into the after-life.
i)      One of these men was saved the other was not in a right relationship with God.
ii)     The unsaved man was told to “remember” how he had everything he had wanted in this life.

11)  Imagine having memories of how good life was on the earth as we are tormented in eternity.
12)  God does not want us to have this kind of experience, so He tells us to “remember” the right things now.

13)  Time can dull the mind and the memory.
14)  We can become forgetful about who we were and what God has done for us.
15)  We begin to forget what God requires of us, just like two of the 7 churches in Rev. 2-3.

16)  Thankfully God has provided some memory tools for us.
17)  One is weekly worship.  Another is the New Testament church.
18)  We are encouraged to “remember” what is right by singing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs.
19)  Preaching and teaching are designed to help us “remember.”
20)  We also have the Lord's Supper.
21)  The Lord's Supper is a way of “remembering” what the Lord has done for us.
22)  In 1 Cor. 16:2 Paul described this coming together as occurring on “every Sunday” (NASB).

23) When it comes to the Christian faith, are we a person who “remembers” and thus obeys or are we “forgetful?”
