Pro 2:4 If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; Pro 2:5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.

Pro 2:4  If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;
Pro 2:5  Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.

The Wisdom of God is available to everyone. Solomon says if we would bother to seek her as we seek for silver or hidden treasures, we will come to the understanding of the fear of God (v.4, 5). Christ said in like manner: “If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God” (John 7:17). Paul says we need not go up to the heaven, the throne of God, or down to the deep abyss, the world of the dead, to find it but he says: “The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach” (Romans 10:8).

The Wisdom of God is near us. It is all written down in the Holy Book that we have: “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16).

If we would spend even half the time learning the Word of God as we spend searching for worldly wealth, we would find the treasures of God. Knowledge has to be accumulated by learning: “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15).

This Wisdom that is from above is a gift from God (James 1:5). Yes, God is the source of all wisdom. And, His kind of wisdom brings peace. James says its character is “first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace” (James 3:17, 18).

The results of knowing Wisdom are Two:
1. We will have reverent fear of God and be filled with His knowledge: “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding” (Proverbs 9:10).
2. We will be the kind of person God intends us to be: “That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous” (Proverbs 2:20).

If we are honest, good, kind, righteous, compassionate, holy, and pure, it is because we have taken on the greatest Wisdom that has ever been expounded. Our Lord Jesus is that Wisdom. Paul says we have the “mind of Christ” (1 Corinthians 2:16). What is the “mind of Christ”? It is the mind of love, sacrifice, and submission (Philippians 2:5-11). It is also the mind of holiness: “But as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct” (1 Peter 1:15, ESV).

The mind of Christ agrees with the Wisdom that is expounded by Solomon in the book of Proverbs. We can have this Wisdom if we seek it like we would seek for earthly treasures (v.4). Solomon says the result of this wonderful Wisdom is wisdom: “For wisdom shall enter into thy heart, And knowledge shall be pleasant unto thy soul; Discretion shall watch over thee; Understanding shall keep thee” (v.10, 11, ASV).

Wisdom will enter our hearts. The results are we will have good discretion, that is, able to differentiate good and evil. We will also have good understanding of right and wrong. Solomon says the person who has Wisdom is able to:
1. Keep himself away from evil men (v.12)
2. Keep himself away from sexual temptations (v.16).

Solomon says: “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding” (Proverbs 4:7). Indeed, getting Wisdom should be the principal thing in our life. Wisdom will lead us into the path of righteousness. Let us seek the Wisdom that is from God.
