Isa 34:16

Isa 34:16  Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read: no one of these shall fail, none shall want her mate: for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit it hath gathered them.

Isaiah 34 is about the judgment of God on the nations of the earth (v.1). By the word “nations”, it refers to the enemies of God’s people. Here, Idumea is here particularly mentioned (v.5), because the Edomites, though related to the Jews, but were for a long time their enemies, and so is here put for all the enemies of God's people. Edom’s destruction will be full and final (v.9-17). NOTE: Isaiah 34 has nothing to do with the Great Tribulation as espoused by the evangelical group commentators. The Great Tribulation is a false doctrine.

God says what He has spoken concerning Edom will come to pass: “Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read: no one of these shall fail, none shall want her mate: for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit it hath gathered them” (v.16).

Seek ye out – God invites the gainsayers, the sceptics, and the doubters to compare the prediction with the fulfillment, and see how literally all would be fulfilled.

Christ says: “Seek, and ye shall find” (Matthew 7:7). Many remain in ignorant of the Word of God because they are not seeking it. They are not searching the Scripture for the truth. The Bereans knew truth from error because they were diligence in seeking for the truth: “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so” (Acts 17:11).

Of the book of the LORD - The place to search for the truth is the Word of God. Our Lord says: “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me” (John 5:39). If you want to know more about your Saviour, you need to study your Bible.

There was this man who walked in one Sunday. He said he was searching for the true church. I asked how he went about searching for it. He said he went round visiting “churches” to find it. I asked him how could he know which is the true church from visiting. He said he could feel it. He wasn’t looking for the true church; he was looking for a place to fit in. He didn’t come back after we had a study about the church Jesus built.

Truth is only found in the word of God: “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth” (John 17:17). If you are looking for the true church, you need to first find its description in the Bible and check which church worships, organises, and teaches according to the Bible.

And read – Why did God give us the Bible? So that we can read and know His will for us: “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32). We can know the truth by turning to the pages of the Scriptures. Are you reading His word?

No one of these shall fail - God’s words will accomplish what He has said. God does not joke. God cannot lie. God means what He says and says what He means. Our Lord says: “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away” (Matthew 24:35).

God has given us two great gifts. His first gift is giving His only begotten Son to die for the sins of man so that man can have eternal life (John 3:16). His second gift to man is the Bible. We will not have known God and that Jesus died for our sins without the Bible revealing them to us. We will not know how to be saved without the Bible telling us what we must do to be saved.

What are YOU doing with the Bible? God wants you to seek and read. Are you reading it?
