Seven little words that carry with them such a powerful impact on our lives. Kindness is defined as being disposed to do good, as an act of good will but like the word “love”, it is difficult to grasp or capture its full range of meaning. Kindness is seen in a good nature, a gentle, tender, loving spirit. We do recognize it when we see it but still find that mere words never seem to do it justice.
Kindness
is one of the most beautiful qualities of life and it is an unfailing mark of
the child of God. It comes from a heart that shows compassion and concern for
others always manifesting a gentle spirit that seeks to uplift the spirit
others. Kindness is really an outward expression of the love we feel in our
heart for the physical and mental welfare of others.
Kindness
is not an elective of the Christian life, it is one of its primary
requirements. Not only does Paul tell us to be kind, Peter tells us that we
must add it to our faith (2 Pet. 1:5-7). I am convinced that when we add and
keep adding kindness to our faith it will have its reward not only in this life
but in the life to come. I sometimes find myself wondering how much pain,
heartache, unhappiness and even ill feelings would vanish by just a little
plain everyday kindness—a word spoken or a deed done.
The
next time you have a warm hearted impulse to say something nice to someone or
to do something nice for someone, do it. Don’t put it off because if you do you
may find that the opportune moment for doing so will pass you by leaving you
with regrets. O how many times have we all said to ourselves, “I should
have…….”. Those words and deeds of compassion, sympathy and encouragement if
left unsaid will have no power to lift someone’s heart or bring any measure of
comfort to a poor weary soul. The warm impulse of the heart when spoken or
acted upon is one of the few things that money cannot buy and yet it has such a
mighty power to bless both the giver and the receiver. Kindness has the
power to open doors, remove obstacles and even scale the mountainous walls of
prejudice. When kindness is supported with wisdom, logic and truth it has the
power to conquer any foe, for you see, kindness speaks a universal language.
Recently
I saw a large sign that had written on it the following words: “Kindness
is hard to give away; it just keeps coming back.”
If
you wish to be loved of others and be pleasing to the Lord:
“Be Ye Kind One To Another”
