Choosing “Choice”
Choices
"Love
is simply using one's God-given power of choice to say or do that which is in
the best interest and for the best good of another person, regardless of
feeling." (Unknown)
Moses
put out two choices for God’s children and encouraged them to “choose life”
(Dt. 30:19).
Joshua
encouraged Israel to choose to serve God (Js. 24:15). The choice was up to the
individual person to serve God or false gods.
The
wise man in Proverbs 8:36 reminds us of the dangers of making wrong
choices. “but he who fails to find me injures himself; all who hate me love
death.”” (Pr. 8:36).
Martha
and Mary chose quite differently when faced with the same choice. “but one
thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken
away from her.”” (Lk. 10:42).
Every
day, every moment we face choices. Some don’t matter, like, "do you want
Pepsi or Coke?". While others are of such importance that failure could
determine life or death both physically and spiritually. My agriculture teacher
in High School used to tell us that making no choice is making a choice to
fail. Jesus taught us that there are two paths in life a broad way and a narrow
way (Mt. 7:13, 14). Deciding not to choose one is really choosing the
broad way.
We
are told to choose what to think about. “Finally, brothers, whatever is true,
whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely,
whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything
worthy of praise, think about these things. (Philippians 4:8,9).
When
we face judgment, it will be the culmination of all those choices that
determines our eternal home. Jesus told us only those that chose to do the will
of the Father will enter the Kingdom (Mt. 7:21). Choose, choose well,
choose wisely.
