“A man who loves wisdom makes his father glad, but he who keeps
company with harlots wastes his wealth” (Proverbs 29:3 NASB). A
love of wisdom leads one away from the company of harlots (whether online or
physical). Wisdom recognizes that such relationships do not have the value of
love, nor really even friendship or companionship. Such relationships are
merely indulging in the passing pleasures of sin. While they may seem to meet
needs they most often leave people feeling ashamed, guilty, remorseful, and
unfulfilled. Ultimately, keeping company with such women (or such men) is a
waste—a waste of time, energy, emotions, and money. Wisdom tells us we are
better off seeking relationships according to God’s will (cf. Proverbs
18:22)—it is better for our futures and it is better for our families.
