Col. 1:10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God.

Colossians 1:10 teaches us how to live a Christian life.
1. Walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing.
2. Fruitful in every good work.
3. Increasing in the knowledge of God.

1. Walk Worthy Of The Lord Unto All Pleasing.
How should a Christian walk? He should walk in a manner worthy of the Lord. The opposite is unworthy and the word appears in 1 Corinthians 11:27 and 29 when a person is said to partake the Lord’s Supper in an unworthy manner. It means he partakes of it irreverently (Strong’s Definition). It means he is not honouring Christ in the manner he is partaking the Lord’s Supper.

Hence, to walk worthy of the Lord is to walk in a way that honours Christ, a conduct that reverent Him. It is conducting our entire life with a view toward pleasing God. It means being in step with the Lord. Christ is pleased when a Christian’s conduct honours Him (John 13:35).

2. Fruitful In Every Good Work.
Another way a Christian should walk that pleases God is when he is fruitful in good work. Paul wrote: “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10). Christians are created by God to perform good works. Paul commanded the rich Christians to be “rich in good works” (1 Timothy 6:18). Christ wants Christians to be a people that is “zealous of good works” (Titus 2:14). The word “zealous” means actively, affectionately, and diligently pursuing to do good works.

And, to be “fruitful in every good work” entails three elements:
(i) Fruitful - The word “fruitful” means abounding. It implies it not just doing one or two good works a year but lots and lots.
(ii) Every - The word “every” means without exception. It means seizing every opportunity to do good whenever and wherever.
(iii) Good – It means the work must be beneficial to someone. Works that only benefit self are selfish works and only serve to glorify self. Good works benefit others.

The principle of doing good works is laid down in Galatians 6:10: “As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.”

God is glorified when a Christian bears much good fruits (John 15:8; Matthew 5:16). God is pleased with such a Christian.

 3. Increasing In The Knowledge Of God.
Another way in which a Christian should walk as to please God is to increase in the knowledge of Him (2 Peter 3:18). To live worthy lives, we need God’s Word; we need to know our God and Saviour Jesus Christ. The Bible is not just any book; it’s the inspired word of God that has the power to transform lives (Psalm 119:11).

Learning to walk worthy is a matter of Biblical instruction. It does not come naturally. It is a habit that has to be formed. Without the Word of God, there is simply no way any of us are going to be able to walk as we should. But God’s word reveals to us how we should walk in a way that pleases Him. The ultimate aim of being filled with the knowledge of God's will is that we might be transformed by the will of God (Romans 12:2; 8:29). God is pleased with those who desire to understand what He is; what He does; what He purposes; what He commands. Hence He commands us to study his word (John 5:39; 2 Timothy 2:15).

How is your walk with God? Are you walking worthily of the name Christian? If your answer is YES, then, you are walking worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing. Let us continue to walk with God. We can be sure that we will not be walking out of step when we are walking with God (Genesis 5:24).
