Psa 113:5 Who is like unto the LORD our God, who dwelleth on high.

Psalm 113 calls on all the servants of God to praise the LORD. In this short psalm, the word “Praise” appears five times. I outlined this psalm as follows:
1. The Call to praise the LORD (v.1-2).
2. The Time to praise the LORD (v.3).
3. The Reasons to praise the LORD (v.4-9).

When is the best time to praise God? The Psalmist says it is “From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same” (v.3). “From the rising of the sun unto its going down” can mean:
1. From the farthest east to the farthest west. This pretty covers the whole earth. All the people of this earth from the remotest east to the farthest west should praise the LORD.
2. From sunrise to sunset. This covers the morning and evening. David says: “Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice” (Psalm 55:17).

Do you pray to God when you wake up and before you go to sleep? Many give the excuse that they are too busy as they need to rush to work and so they have no time to pray. While, by night time, they are too tired they simply knock off the moment their bodies touch the bed.

Whereas, we should rationalise that because we are going to have a busy day ahead, we need to take it to the LORD in prayer. He has promised: “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). Cast the day’s load on His shoulder and He will help us carry it: “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you” (1 Peter 5:7).

The reason we should cast our cares upon God is because of who He is. The Psalmist asks: “Who is like unto the LORD our God, who dwelleth on high?” (v.5).

The answer: No one! God alone dwells on high and so, nothing escapes His eyes. Verse 6 says: “That humbleth himself to behold the things that are in heaven and in the earth.” The humility I believe refers to the care and concern for the people He has created. Though God is so high and mighty, He is not arrogant. He is not like the billionaire who never cast an eye on his lowly servants. David agrees that our Creator cares: “When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?” (Psalm 8:3, 4).

What did God see when He looks down from above? First, He saw the poor and destitute and raised them up to sit with princes (v.7, 8). We see Joseph, Moses, Daniel his three friends, siting with kings and princes.

Second, He saw the barren women and made them conceived. We recall Sarah, Rebekah, Rachel, Hannah, and Elizabeth, were initially barren until God opened their wombs. God cares for the women too.

The Psalmist is telling us that our God is Gracious; He sees our needs and fulfils them. Therefore, because He is Gracious, He is worthy of our PRAISE.

Our praises will not cease when we leave the earth and go to heaven. Even the angels in heaven praise God, crying Holy, Holy, Holy (Revelation 4:8). Indeed, “Who is like unto the LORD our God, who dwelleth on high” (v.5). No one! He alone is Great. He alone is Gracious. There is none like our God. Let us Praise Him: “Let them praise the name of the LORD: for his name alone is excellent; his glory is above the earth and heaven” (Psalm 148:13).
