"A man's discretion makes him slow to anger, And it is his glory to overlook a transgression" (Proverbs 19:11 NASB). Many today consider it a sign of weakness to fail to defend and insult or rise to a challenge, but it is a sign of intelligence and understanding. The wise remain calm when others are angry, because they take the time to sort the matter out and consider what actually needs to be said and done. They watch their tone and speak words of kindness not anger (cf. Ephesians 4:29, 32).
We need to be among those who are slow to anger, speaking calmly and wisely. We need to be willing to overlook insults and transgression. To be willing to acknowledge that another simply made a mistake. We recognize our own human weaknesses and imperfections, but refuse to apply this to others. Remember, we will be judged by the same standard we judge others (cf. Matthew 7:1) and we need to be willing to forgive in order to receive forgiveness (Matthew 6:14-15, Colossians 3:13).
